Saturday was the Halloween Party, and apart from one very disappointing no-show it was a good one. This is the 12th or 13th year that we've done this now, and they never seem to get old. Same core group, we add one here, lose another there. We've gotten past the point in our lives where we drink to oblivion and then puke on the furniture, so the parties get wild, but no one gets sick and no one has to clean up a disgusting mess. It was actually one of the mellower events we've had, everyone kept their clothes on this time (disappointing) but no one broke any furinture either (appreciated). Last night was Trick or Treating for the neighborhood, so we can actually start taking down the decorations. I know we're rolling ever on towards Christmas, but this is actually a sad time of year for me. Have Pennsic in August, which I live for every summer. We get home from there and start making plans for the Halloween party. Slowly. Thoroughly. But once we reach the end of October it always feels like "my" year is over. Sure, we have Thanksgiving, Xmas, then New Year's and another year has gone. But MY holidays, the ones that I treasure and enjoy are over. Yeah, I like Xmas, yeah, leftover turkey sandwiches are perhaps the best food EVER! But the time of year that means the most to me is done. I've always been and Autumn person, I guess.
One consolation... Since its getting colder out, I get to play with FIRE more often. I have a woodburning stove and a big stone fireplace. And my supply of firewood was just delivered this weekend. Squee!!!!! Next year, I won't need any delivered. I have received generous donations of trees from friends and co-workers, my dad has chopped down a great many trees at his place, and I'm now the proud owner of a 6.5hp 22 Ton Hydraulic Log Splitter!!!!!! Argh argh argh argh.....
Oh and for the record, this is my last week as a viable member of the breeding population.... My wife is having me fixed.
