Some of you might know that I DJ/MC in a chain of strip clubs for a living. This chain specializes in the plastic girls that you see in videos and magazines. The original reason I joined SG was to see real women, ones with tattoos, piercings, and wild hair. It was an effective counter to plastic girls I watched get naked every night.
Last night, I took Ivy to go see Ryan and Faith perform at Devil's Point. Please understand, the clubs I work in are beautiful, clean, and new. However, I got my start in a crackerbox in Vegas named The Tender Trap. Walking into DP took me back to those days. The doorman was trying real hard to be Capt. Jack Sparrow (complete with eyeliner), but it just added to the effect of the place. Ryan spotted Ivy, they got caught up and I got drinks and some one dollar bills.
Faith was on stage when we got to our seats, and the club was mostly empty, but the feel of the place was total 'joint'. You have big clubs and small bars, and then you have joints. It's the kind of place that was built for one purpose, on a tight budget, that has more ambience than polish, and a cozy feel that wraps around you like a cocoon. Given a choice, I prefer a joint over a club anyday.
Faith finished her set, and Ryan took the stage. Ivy sat at her rack (tip rail), and I enjoyed the show from the cheap seats. Here's one of two reasons why I am writing this entry: Ryan was great. No one is going to mistake her for a ballerina, or cast her in the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall, but she was extremely entertaining. I don't know the first song she danced to, but the last two songs were by Etta James and Patsy Cline. After watching girls walk around (most strippers don't dance, they strut or roll around on the floor, or do gymnastic pole tricks) to techno and pop rock for the last 4 years, it was great to watch her dance to her music, choreogrphing her moves to the beat AND the words. Her robot set was cute as hell, and her cowboy set was a riot to watch.
I've been jaded by the industry, and I know it. It was great to watch someone perform, to actually TRY to be entertaining and enjoy herself doing it. I give her two-thumbs up.
Now for the second reason for this entry: these girls, Faith and Ryan, both danced their asses off, but the amount of money they made on stage was sad, considering how many people come to this website. Spread the word, these shows are fun, and the girls need your $upport. I'm not asking you, I'm telling you, get your a$$e$ out to these shows and $upport the Suicide Girls you claim to love.
