I was called painfully romantic today by a good friend of mine. I've never really been called that before. Cute? Sure. Silly? Of course. Romantic? Sometimes. Painfully romantic? I didn't even know it was possible. The thing is that I'm making a mix cd for the wedding as party favors. I figure I can make a good mix cd portraying our feelings the only real way I know how (through music) and the fact that I was starting to tear up over the songs made her say that.
What can I say though? Will Oldham's "Beast For Thee" always gets me. It reminds me so much of Leonard Cohen's "I'm Your Man" that the two just mix together in my head and overwhelms me with emotions. I can't help it
I digress
Here's what I have as a track listing so far:
Grow Old With Me - Postal Service's cover of the John Lennon song
Come Round And Love Me - Arab Strap
Ice Cream - Sarah McLachlan ("Your love is better than Ice Cream"? Goddamn that's love)
Beast For Thee - Will Oldham (I refuse to call him by his various different names)
I Will Follow You Into The Dark - Death Cab For Cutie (IMO, a modern Edgar Allen Poe-esque work in musical format)
You Had Me From Hello - Kenny Chesney (I hate pop-country music but I love her enough to include it since she loves it)
Digital Love - Daft Punk (Gotta break up the tempo)
King Of Silence - Cibo Matto (Something from the girl's point of view)
And I Love Her - Beatles
Love Song - 311 dub cover of the Cure song (It's our song)
So that's what I got so far. I'm looking for some more songs, probably gonna add Ben Fold's The Luckiest and the Deftone's cover of Sade's No Ordinary Love, and will probably cut some out, but this is it for now.
My friend just read this over my shoulder and had this to say:
"You're actually adding country into the mix cd? Damn you must really care about her"
I agree. Mix cd's are kinda sacred to me and I wouldn't let just anyone invade them like that.
