Some of my performances of this semester. I don't have last one yet I might make a youtube soon with it ... if you want to see me do somethine quite extreme and disturbing... it was quite to me... anyways.
This is my performance The Distance between us.
I used 4 foot long chopsticks and a bowl of rice to feed a volonteer in the audience. Due to the long chopstick it was quite impossible to feed that person so I broke the sticks in half but still the distance was quite too far so I broke them again and took the bowl in my hand and I sat close to the volonteer.
I did this in attempt to show our fear in modern society of getting close and touch others. The chopsticks and rice are indeed cultural appropriation and the metaphore was taken for a chinese legend about hell and heaven that I really like. Using another cultural reference here emphase the break and the distance that is between stranger in this multi-cultural society and was on purpose and aknowledge.
This is my public intervention done 3 weeks ago on MacKay
Would you like a piece of my heart ? is a street intervention where I asked random strangers to introduce themselve and so I did the I would offer them a piece of my heart. If they would say yes I would open my jacket and pull out a zip-locked chicken heart in a faux-rollex seller style. The most adventurous would take it but most would be replused by it.
I played on the attraction-replusion idea and expended it to emotions. Love is attractive and replusive at times. I also set this performance where most stranger are annoyed to give money or cigarettes mostly and getting the attention of a stranger is something hard now. I also wanted them to think I was a kind person at first like you might think of a possible love interest then I turned into a wierdo-gross girl like some love interest turn into. I think this piece was by far the most fun and successful performance I have done so far.
