Oi, Ciao, Hello, Hola gorgeous babes and gents. I hope your having a wonderful day/night, if it isn’t just remember there is always someone who has it way worse. It’s a crisp Sunday morning. Cat and I went for our morning bike ride. We ate some eggs with hummus and berries. She has been so supportive of me in my journey to lose weight and be healthier. Last night I met her parents, they were an adorable couple. I definitely enjoyed the dinner we ate at Il Posto. Chicken with risotto was excellent. Her dad is similar to mine, a hard working and funny hippie type. Her mom is incredibly sweet, even though Cat considers her to be an ice queen.
Good stuff this Friday at record store. I have been waiting for this record for quite sometime and so far it has been a mixed bag. The new Earl Sweatshirt record Some Rap Songs. Has good production and some interesting guest spots. Sometimes his voice gets buried in the mix which is kind of a bummer. I like this track so far.
This next record is by a band I’ve just heard for the first time. Foxwarren is definitely in the psych-rock vein. Which I absolutely love, throw in some synths which give it a krautrock kinda feel. To make a solid debut record, I like this track.
This next performer is one of my favorites and the inspiration for this blog today. Jeff Tweedy releases his first proper solo record Warm, I’ve enjoyed this record quite a bit. A companion piece to his autobiography. Like Jeff Tweedy I myself struggled with addiction. So the songs are relatable, well written, and well produced.
Today I will be talking about Wilco. A band I did not like at first but grew on me. Coming out of the ashes of Uncle Tupelo. Former bassist/guitarist Jeff Tweedy started Wilco in the early nineties. He took along some Uncle Tupelo bandmates for the ride. The debut record A.M. was in the alt-country vein of Uncle Tupelo. I like this track
Unhappy with the debut album, the band considers it to be a failure. The next record saw them ditch the country leanings for a more pop oriented rock sound, that leaned on 70’s soft rock. The band released a double album for their next one in 1995. Being There considered a fan favorite. This song is my favorite.
The next record Summerteeth was critically acclaimed but sold less than Being There. It is also the only Wilco record to feature numerous overdubs. This track is one of my favorites.
the next record has a bit of controversy surrounding it, the bands label let them go and offered up the rights to the music, initially for $50,000, then re-negotiated letting the band take the music for free. Which the ended up streaming for free on their website. Hailed as classic in the Wilco catalog Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is definitely my favorite record of theirs. This song is great.
The next record earned the band a Grammy. Rightfully so it’s a solid record. Definitely their most widely loved record amongst the fans and critics. A Ghost is Born, has one of my favorite songs of theirs.
The next record Sky Blue Sky was the first to feature the addition of Nels Cline on lead guitar. This song has been in my rotation for some time now.
Coming off some performances on the 2008 Obama campaign. The next album Wilco(The Album) was also nominated for Grammy. Here we find Jeff Tweedy in full on Dad mode. This song is quite enjoyable.
the next record The Whole Love was also nominated for a Grammy. This was my least favorite Wilco record, although I do enjoy the title track.
When this next album came out I was excited because of the title Star Wars. It was definitely a nostalgic seventies vibe flowing through the songs.
Released a couple years ago the next album Schmilco, was rather enjoyable as well. I like this song the best.
So today’s bum is a total babe. She’s into Ratchet and Clank, Dr. Who, and she’s super cute. The gorgeous @vervain
Have a great day everyone!
