Hola, Oi, Ciao, Hello lovely ladies and gents. It is another wonderful Sunday morning, I’ve done my planks and I made a delicious healthy breakfast for me and my sweetheart. We had fresh fruit with granola, egg white omelettes with veggies and tofu I seasoned with mama Carrera’s spice blend. My mom has blessed me with a pound of this wonderful spice blend. When I asked her what was in it. She replied “ Mijo eso es un secreto, no puedo decirte hasta me muera” or “I can’t tell you until I’m dying” gee thanks mom. Cat has the day off so we will be watching the Lions play the Vikings and going on a bike ride after she makes us a nice lunch. She looks amazing in her Adam Thielen jersey, with her purple shorts. I would prefer it if she was wearing my Barry Sanders jersey that my mom sent back to me, along with my Calvin Johnson jersey both which are now autographed by both players. I’m not sure how my mom pulled this off. She did and I was beyond happy, did I mention that my mom is bad ass and that she adores Cat so much that she has started calling her mija. Cat was like what does mija mean. I said “just know that it’s a good thing, she spent more time of our FaceTime convo talking to you than me” for those of you that don’t know mija or mi hija is a term of endearment. Literally it means my daughter. She doesn’t call my sisters that and they are her daughters, so it’s special.
A few reviews today the new Vince Staples is some fire, I have been a fan of Vince Staples since he first came around with “Blue Suede” he’s got some sick production and some cool guest features especially E-40. This track is a banger.
The new Arsis record is some quality technical death metal from the Virginia masters. I’ve been feeling this song
The new record by The Ocean is pretty sick continuing with the themes of biological periods soundtracked to atmospheric sludge metal
Todays subject is one that I was introduced to me by a person who will always have a special place in my heart. My friend Joe Gardiner Rest In Peace my brother. That is reggae, most people when they think of reggae, they picture Bob Marley, while Mr. Marley is great he is not the only one. Joe introduced me both personally and Musically to this group of Jazz musicians who started playing reggae as a hobby which ended up becoming a successful band. The guys and girls of Groundation are not only great people they are some serious players. Marcus Urani’s organ playing is some of my favorite.
From hanging out with Joe and having conversations with the various members of Groundation I learned about reggae, its various sub-genres. This next artist has a very long career and was a favorite of the Groundation horn section. Burning Spear could be considered a father of the reggae movement. This track grooves and has an awesome horn section.
Another beloved artist among the group was this man. Max Romeo, I have been a fan of Max Romeo since I first heard him. This song is a classic.
This next group is one that I can often be found playing early mornings at the pizza shop to set the vibe for the day. Considered the creators of The rocksteady sub genre, I love me some Toots and The Maytals.
The Groundation guys were heavy into dub reggae which features the use of echo and reverb, this guy was one of their favorite dub producers the legendary King Tubby.
Another sub genre of reggae is dancehall and one of my favorites is Buju Banton. This dude jams I saw a show with him and Shabba Ranks, it was fire.
I couldn’t have a reggae blog without including its most notable figure, for my final song it’s one that is not only timeless, it still has meaning in these modern times. Here is my favorite Bob Marley track.
Today’s bum is a super cute Floridian, I love her leg sleeve. She is a gamer, listens to Dying Fetus, which I don’t know many women who like death metal, is an avid reader and a total fucking babe. The intriguing @liya
Have a great day Babes!
