I just want to show off my baby.
This is Coretta, a Smith-Corona Clipper portable manual typewriter of indeterminate age. I think she's probably from between 1965-1975. I picked her up from some guy on the street (literally) for $40.
She is beautiful and perfect in every way. Seriously. She looks and works like she was new. Her case has the key taped to the inside with ancient clear tape. She was probably sitting in some closet for decades. I love her. When I use her, I feel like I should be sitting in some gritty motel room at 3am, chain-smoking and drinking burnt, watery coffee.
I bet the actual experience is a lot less romantic than the notion, though. I'll stick with using her in my nice little apartment and eating cashews while listening to the same damned Barenaked Ladies album over and over.
