Did you know that one of the first documented autopsies was done on a pair of conjoined twins in the 1500s? They were baptised by a priest as two souls, which sparked a huge debate. Unfortunately they died only 8 days after they were born. In order to settle the debate, an autopsy was performed to determine whether there were two souls or only one. They concluded, because the babies had almost two entirely separate sets of organs, that indeed there were two souls.
Very interesting... I got this tidbit from the book Complications by Atul Gawande (a surgeon, also a staff writer for the New Yorker). I highly recommend this book - it is an extremely insightful look into the medical profession, how and why things go wrong in medicine, what patients want and expect from their doctors, and the world that doctors live in. Plus it's full of fascinating case stories to illustrate his points.
Anyway...I am finally through the insanity of the past few weeks and things are calming down. My supervisor returns to work next week, the kitten is now peeing solely in his litterbox (yayyy!!!), I have no more dogsitting to do. In fact, this weekend, I think I'm going to relax and work on some of my projects. Sewing and such. I have to make a cake for a coworker this weekend, but that will be really fun, so it doesn't really feel like an obligation.
Well, that's all the updates I have for now. What are you all doing with your weekend???
XOXO
