Today I took my last exam. I think I did alright, the only crappy thing about it is that I have the sniffles. It sucks pretty bad, but I am drinking a lot of hot tea. So I guess I feel alright. My new laptop is working out quite nicely, I put Nip Tuck wallpaper on it, so it is awesome!
Tonight I have been reading the crime library site. I was looking at the John Battaglia case, my mother is friends with his ex-wife (Mary Jean), so I am very familiar with the case. In 2001 he gunned down his two daughters, Faith(9 years old) and Libby (6 years old. Her name was Liberty but we all called her Libby) while Mary Jean listened over speaker phone. Mary Jean immediately hung up the phone and called the police, she told them that her ex-husband shot her two daughters and they had to go to John's Deep Ellum apartment. She went to his apartment and waited for the police. They did not show up, finally she flagged down a police car and told him what was going on. The police officer went up to the apartment and immediately called for backup. Mary Jean was never allowed inside. After John shot his two daughters he went to Deep Ellum tattoos and got two tattoos, both roses with his daughters names tattooed underneath. The police found his car in the parking lot and waited for him to come back, when he did he put up a fight. Eventually he was taken into custody. The next year he got sentenced to death, I remember that Mary Jean called my mom and asked her to come to the courthouse for the reading of the sentence. It was one of the most tragic things I have ever seen happen to someone. It is wierd to think about sometimes because knowing those two girls, Mary Jean and John changed my perspective of things. I used to be totally against the death penalty, for example, but after that happened it became very difficult for me to continue believing that. I guess being close to that situation had a little to do with my decision about my major. Tonight I found out that there is a book about the murders and I want to read it, but I am worried about how I will feel about it. I already know all the details of the case, and I read about this stuff all the time. I guess because of the fact it is personal, I think it may effect me. But I am still not sure. Well, I guess I will have to think about it.
