TRAVELING LIGHT (The very rough draft)
I'm traveling light following the light of the world cause I'm a moth with the sight a satchel and a dream.
The Buddha says possessions are chains so I am fettered only by the most fragile of links, cause if it don't fit in my bag or my belly, my head or my heart, I don't own it.
Even the soles of my shoes are gossamer as my sanctified Holely socks can attest and the callouses on my feet rise up in confirmation.
I'm traveling light following the light of the world and I'm not enlightened yet. The Fat Man says the acceptance of ignorance is the first step to enlightenment, then I've had a million firsts step and I'll take a few more yet.
Two dollars puts tobacco in my pocket, six bits buys a bottomless cup of coffee, newspapers are free if you don't mind half finished crosswords and flirting with dowdy waitresses provide a mornings entertainment while miniskirted collegiate eye candy passes by reminding me that I have yet to overcome all my desires.
But I'm traveling light following the light of the world. It's dark when you're traveling light. You see the hungry and the homeless, nicotine addicts hunting snipes in sidewalk ashtrays, cardboard becomes a Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress. Pill poppers compete with junkies, tweakers and pisspott drunkards for citizen of the month. Searching, theiving, canning, hustling, flying a sign on the freeway offramp, begging for a hand and two dollar toothless blowjob put federal reserve notes in play revitalizing the economy.
But there is light at the bottom of the barrel. Cause the people down there know that they are brothers and sisters: their family values are stronger than any compassionate conservative of SUV driving soccermom. That's all they got is each other.
And when you see a man give his last two dimes to a person who needs it only slightly more than he does...well...then you've seen a light that can blind.
Yeah, I'm traveling light following the light of the world.
I ain't got there yet.
But I did take another first step today

Seriously, it's been a while since I've read something that insightful and eye-opening. And I've been looking, believe me.
Thanks for making my night a little more worthwhile.
