Feed The World ( Maybe Next Year)

So that's another Christmas over and done with at my place of work and yet again it seems that the company is determined to outdo all the competition in the "How much can we throw away this year" contest which I have to say is one of the things that kind of sickens me about working there. How many people are dying from starvation in other countries? who cares? not us apparently since we threw away over 20,000 worth of food just in the week leading up to Christmas. Apparently it's the company's policy to give away any unsold food to local charity's but that's never happened in the time I've been there as far as I'm aware. The company likes to wax lyrical about how much money they raise for charity every year but in reality this is equivalent to comparing a bag of ice cubes to an iceberg. After all this is a company that would rather throw stuff away than sell it at a reduced price because it actually saves money which seems like backwards logic to me.

Thanks For The Advice Or Not In This Case

So anyone who's happened by here in the last few days will have read about my recent troubles with my twitchy laptop, well because I like venting so much I thought I'd explain the whole sorry tale. For a start I'd like to point out that I am in no way a computer expert by any stretch of the imagination so for anyone who wants to laugh at my lack of computer techtalk knowledge just bear that in mind. It started a few weeks ago when I turned on my laptop to check my email like I do most nights after I get back from work although I'm no 'net junkie by any means. Unlike normal I'm greeted with a warning message saying my "Default Gateway is offline" which makes very little sense to me all I know it means my laptop is as much use as a carrot for checking my email and anything else that involves the 'net. I consult with both my brothers who have had computers far longer than I've had my laptop and neither of them seem to have any idea what this warning means so after a few days I'm starting to get a bit narked with the whole thing my dad being the helpful sort he is says he'll go down to PCWorld and ask someone there so I finally think things might be progressing in a good way only to find out the guy at PCWorld didn't know what a "Default Gateway" was but helpfully suggested "it could be your laptop, router,ISP or a virus" there's that training and customer service at work. I had already figured that out for myself just by asking people at work, in the end somebody suggested reinstalling the drivers which didn't make whole lot of sense but I figured out how to do it and it worked like a charm. On finding I'd sorted the problem on my own my brother said" how did you fix it?" I told him I reinstalled the drivers and the reply I got was "What are drivers?".

I Guess Envy Is My Sin

So one my friends at work told me the other day that for Christmas his future mother in law bought him and his girlfriend 90,000 worth of house! as someone who his stuck at home because I can't afford my own place and don't want to waste my money on renting a shoebox that I can't change in any way it was a bit of a kick in the balls.

Wow!

A house??

Lucky bastard.

I love how employees at computer stores know even less than I do about computers.

The two local grocery stores where I am are pretty good about donating food to the food bank, as well as other groups.
