I believe that information should be free. Any institution that supports the free proliferation of knowledge contributes to the progress and betterment of society. For years libraries were the place that anyone could go to learn, but in recent years the internet has replaced them as learning tools. I fantasize about a world where everyone has free internet access and the ability to learn anything about everything anytime the desire strikes. I believe in the internet. Heart body and soul. I am truly and deeply in love with it. I constantly stand in awe at the cumulation of the worlds knowledge. Through it I could learn advanced electrical engineering, quantum physics, new programming languages, hieroglyphics, world religion, how to craft a sword....anything. How often do you stop and really think about how wondrous that is?
I remember asking my mother a question when I was a little boy. We both went to the Encyclopedia Brittanica and found an answer, but I recall being disappointed at the lack of depth. I wanted to know more but there was no more to be had.
We live in a remarkable time and I think it's important to stop and appreciate it. What has the internet taught you recently?
