Late Saturday night, or more accurately early Sunday morning, I watched someone very close to me die. I don't think the experience has fully registered yet. The moment that struck me most is the transition from person to...thing. It never occurred to me how occupied a person actually appears. Even a sleeping person is unmistakably a person, but after death...empty. The question then becomes, did I perceive an objective transition or was the observation a subjective acknowledgement that she is gone? It's been a tough weekend.

I don't think I approve of the new comment format. I really don't care how long you've been a member, how many comments you have left, or where you are from...and if I did I would just check your profile.
