Ok so the trip is going great so far. Last night one of our clients, an expat, who lives in the apartment upstairs with his wife and their baby took me out with his friends from the US who also just got to Bangkok for the first time. We took the SkyTrain and the Peninsula Hotel boat across the river(?) to the hotel to pick them up. From there we went to the tallest building in Bangkok.
The 64th floor has an open bar/restaurant the weather was amazing and the view beautiful. The pictures I took looking down at the city were too dark This picture is of the top.
We had a drink there and then went to the cutest Thai restaurant for dinner. There was 5 of us and we ordered like 6 appetizers, 10 main dishes and everyone was drinking. The bill was like $70 US. Super cheap.
The plan after was to go to the night market and then to the Irish bar for St Paddys day but I was too tired so I went back to the apartment and went to bed. We shared a cab to the market and then I took it to the apartment. The client who speaks enough Thai to get by worked out the cost and gave me 150 bhat to pay the driver for the 15 minute cab ride. I dont really get the money system here because my martini at the bar was 320 bhat, which is like $9. The taxi guy got $4 and that included a really really really good tip.
I can get used to having a maid and a cook. They are both WONDERFUL. The cook is a 5 star chef and she makes the most amazing dishes with the limited number of things I eat. This morning for breakfast she made eggs, sausage and fruit. Im not so big on breakfast so by noon I was hungry.
Just as Im thinking hmmm Im hungry do I ask them to make me lunch? Shes in the doorway saying that lunch is served. She made chicken, battered deep fried bell peppers with an amazing sauce, soup, turkey and cheese sandwiches, fruit and of course rice. There is enough food here for 3 people. Im eating as I type this.
My boss lives in the apartment downstairs, the cook lives in the maid quarters down there so there is no food up here even if I wanted to make myself something. The fridge is stocked with water, soda and beer. Apparently if you buy something at the store yourself they think you LOVE it so itll always be stocked after that day and they remember for when you come back. Im going to get some wine later
All of the staff is female and they are so excited to have me here. The one I connect with the most is named Fah, shes in her early 20s and likes to party. Were going to have fun. Last night I woke up at 3am and decided to check my email. She was in the office checking her email drunk. I hadnt met her before and I had my pjs on half sleep but it was cool. Im not that weird about having people I dont know around. Im the kinda girl who can stay up drinking all night and be ready to work first thing in the morning. So is she.
All of my coworkers whove been here and stayed in the apartment bitch and moan about EVERYTHING especially the service and the restaurants around the apartment. The restaurants around here dont smell that great when you walk by but its not the worst thing youve ever smelled. As for service they want to make their own meals, make their own beds, etc. FUCK that. Im only here 2 weeks Im going to enjoy it. They all have major issues with the food because they dont like Thai food and feel like they have to eat it. Whatever. I talked to the cook today and told her what I like and dont like, I had to send my eggs back to be cooked more, etc. She wasnt offended.
They even bitch about having a half empty whatever replaced with a new one when they arent even paying for it. Also they dont make themselves at home here. No one could tell me for sure how many bedrooms and bathrooms the apartment has WTF. The first thing I did after unpacking was took a self guided tour of the place, popped my CD Exchange CDs in the CD player in the living room and started working.
My bosses trip was delayed by a day so that's one more day for me to sight see and what not. I've been working since 7am it's 1pm now I'm going to break for the day. We're going to the grand palace and we have to be there before 3. Then off shopping
I wasnt so sure about coming here but I really like it. I need to be rich.
Oh and last night I totally tripped and broke my platform shoe now all I have are flip flops and tennis shoes. I need to hit a shoe store. So much for packing light!
