So today while driving to work I heard a news story about a company that does natural burials or something like that. Basically when you die they take you home from the hospital or if you die at home they leave you there. Someone comes to your house bathes you and gets you ready for burial. They dont embalm you and you have a choice of a regular coffin or an environmentally safe cardboard coffin.
I thought that was an interesting idea but it got me thinkin. Why do we pump people full of embalming fluid anyways? Is it to make them look better for the living?
I looked it up andembalming sanitizes and preserves the body, retards the decomposition process, and enhances the appearance of a body disfigured by traumatic death or illness. Embalming makes it possible to lengthen the time between death and the final disposition, thus allowing family members time to arrange and participate in the type of service most comforting to them.
Embalming is optional if your death wasnt caused by a contagious disease or if your remains dont have to be transported out of state.
Morbid questions for todayWhat do you want done with your body when you die? Burial or cremation? Embalming? Cardboard or traditional coffin? Party to celebrate of your life or sad service?

Oh, and about my body, post mortem, I'd like to be stuffed.
