The times of day I have to come into work keep getting earlier and earlier... but it's ok cause well that means a better paycheck.. no one can argue with that!
Got a phone call this morning and it was my boss. Well actually I have three bosses lol. It's a family run pet store and they all co-own. There's Cheryl (the mom and main boss) Richard (her son) and Kim (her daughter). Richard called me this morning asking if I could come in at 3 and to also tell me his grandfather died last night It has been a long time. His grandfather has been in and out of the hospital since last May. It's really hard on them since they are here in GA and their grandparents are up in Mass. They can't even get up there in the area for another 2 days b/c of some ice storm going on up there.
I don't even know the guy but it makes me sad. He has been so sick and finally he refused meds and refused to eat, was just on alot of morphine to kill the pain; so at least he wasn't in pain. I hope I never end up like that. If I'm going to die I want it to be quick and just like one day here and the next day dead. I don't think I could stand being old and sick, People just stop caring. Cheryl went up to visit and the nursing staff in the hospital hadn't been given him his meds (this is before he refused them) and he had blood on his shirt from coughing.. it's like ok we all know he is dying but the least you could do is afford him some fucking human decency and let him go out with the respect he deserves.
I think that's the bottom line, no one has respect for anyone but themselves anymore. Nurses are in the -caring- profession, yet instead of making a sick old man comfortable in his last few days they treat him worse than a sick dog by the edge of the street..
That would be the rant of the day WHERE THE HELL IS THE RESPECT?

Health care at the end of life is a difficult situation for everyone involved at the best of times, but I'm sorry to hear that your friend's (or just boss'? I'm not sure) grandfather had such a rough time at the end. There are limits to what doctors and nurses can legally and ethically do, but there's no excuse for that kind of neglect.
