This had been part of a reply to Murder_Tramp's comment, but it got a little long, so I left some of hers there, and some of it got transfered here.
There's little worse than a bad hairdresser.. and it's too complicated trying to do it yourself. 10 years ago, my hair was to my lower back, and I had them dye it blue for me... it turned into grey mush and I had to shave it ALL off. Caused so much trouble at school. Of course, the time I used temporary blue, it wouldn't go away. I went to this current place over the summer to get my hair dark brown with purple in the front. The owner girl got the shade right, but a patch was missed, so the other girl remixed and applied it, but hers was blue. It faded to a light green... I wouldn't mind faded purple, or reapply the same shade so it would fade again and be a little darker. No, they used temporary to fix it, and told me it would be permenant. Each time they bleached me and put me and the chemicals under heat, frying my hair. Then they filled the bleached area so I could go back to red, but the idiot girl used ash and I've got 2-tone hair now (besides turning funny combining red with ash, the bleached areas aren't holding colour). So I stuck with the owner for the trim, because she'd never done it wrong before, and I don't know how I'll fix it without getting shorter. Not the biggest problem any of us have had, but frustrating all the same.
I could probably say more, and everyone would sigh and go away... but I'm at my friend's and he's waiting on me, so that's all for now. Yay?

My hair is a wretched mess currently. It was blonde and then we tried to do red for my best friend's wedding, it came out a grey-ish-purple... can't have that if you are the Maid of Honor... so my little cousin did it blue black, it looked goregous fo about 5 days... now it is greyish-greenish muck and I have no money to fix it.
Again, good luck with the kitties! What a shame vet-techs can't be trusted!
