Omg...a total snow accumulation of 5-8 inches, starting this evening and going through tomorrow, strong winds with a high of 8 tomorrow!!! Quick, someone give me a plane ticket.
If it is very bad, I hope our 'teacher workday' is canceled...we were planning on rearranging furniture at the alternative high school...nothing serious. I think 8 inches of snow calls for me being allowed to stay home; the cats think so too (but they always think I should stay home and amuse them...I told them to come up with a stay at home and make tons of money scheme, but they have yet to devise a plan for me...lazy cats).
Edit: The weather forecast has changed: 5-6 inches this evening and tonight and another 5-6 tomorrow...for a grand total of 10-12!!! For fuck sake!
I am planning to have friends over for a Mardi Gras party (no, we are not flashing for beads), and I am excited (I make a good gumbo- just like my adopted Cajun mama, Bernadette, taught me, and I am ordering a King Cake from my favorite bakery back in Louisiana). I miss the Mardi Gras season, for the past four years it has been in my life, a time of friends and laughter and just general merriment; the college even gave us 'Mardi Gras break.' My first year there, I went to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, I hung out in Lafayette the following years. My best friend lived off the parade route, we threw a party at her house on Fat Tuesday and would walk down and see parades and then walk back and celebrate a little more, until no-one had the gumption to walk down the block again. We started at 9am last year and drank mimosas in the morning, progressing into stronger beverages later, ending the night by dancing at the Blue Moon. I will miss it this year, but I think throwing my own little party will be a nice way to remember it. I am looking forward to February, (for more than one reason.)
Laissez les bons temps rouler!
