A long long time ago...In a blog post far away.
Yeah, I haven't been quite active on SG as of late. Almost two months! I've been popping in here and there posting the odd big booty shots or whatever I've snapped during the day but nothing "substantial".
I've been a little busy since my last blog post. This is mostly due to my full course load during the summer, my working during weekends and the various events I try to attend with whatever money I have left over. School is scary and interesting as usual. As for events, there's a "new" concept that has been spreading around lately called Hip Hop Karaoke. Some of you might have heard of it, seen it or even participated in it. I attended my first even a few weeks back and was instantly hooked. I told myself I'd perform on the next event. The idea is simple, you have a stage, an MC a DJ and a set of microphones for anyone who is gutsy enough to sing to their favourite Hip Hop tracks. Now, the only thing is that you HAVE to know it by heart seeing as there is no screen with the lyrics to help you out.
Now, I'd set my sights on doing Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys but another crew already beat me to it. By the way, you'd have to pre-register your tracks by email which in turn the event organizers would send you the lyrics and the instrumental to practice. My second selection ended up being Poison by BBD. It almost didn't get accepted due to the fact that it is considered an RnB track. Fortunately, it was one of the organizers favourites and allowed me to do it. Being the procrastinator that I am, I didn't practice until the day before the official event. I am personally disappointed at my performance even though people said I did good. Here's a video from HHKMtl's (Hip Hop Karaoke Montreal) Youtube channel:
You can catch other performances from the first and second even on their channel and some shots, playlist and rules on their website.
The second major event that I attended recently was one that I'd been itching to go to for the last two years. I finally managed to make some time to enjoy a good old Roller Derby game. I'd missed the Beast of the East season opening tournament the month before so I had to redeem myself by attending my first of many games this season. Two match ups were presented that night. The Montreal Sexpos VS The World and The New Skids on the Block VS The Maine Port Authority. Both games were full of hard hitting, skilled rolling and all around fan worshiping. Here are a few shots I took of the two matches:
