Last month during the Montreal MEG Festival I was given a heads up about a certain group called Birdy Nam Nam (MySpace page). I was covering a few shows for FAMEGIANT so I decided Id stay up a little late and catch their show. Little did I know this was their Montreal debut and it started with a bang. Not literally but thats how it felt to me. Technical difficulties aside and a few tender words from one of the members, they began their audio assault on a pleasure seeking creature. This creature was the seemingly solid fan base they managed to conjure up in a matter of minutes as the previous artists finished their set. Sensory overload. I had a hard time taking pictures while nodding my head or pumping my fist to their tunes.
Theyd started off with Bonne Nouvelle the fourth song on their Manual For Successful Rioting released in 2009. As the music hit my ear drums and was processed/interpreted by my brain, I could feel the endorphins being released into my system rendering me helpless to the waves of sound going through me at the time. It was obvious I wasnt the only one being affected by their music. The entity known as the crowd was moving, gyrating, vibrating to each and every note being produced by the dexterous hands of Crazy-B, DJ Pone, DJ Need, and Little Mike.
I wont say much more or else itll seem like Im some sort of groupie (Im on the right path) pledging allegiance to the nation known as Birdy Nam Nam. Ill leave you with one of their official videos and a few of the shots I got at the show.
Enjoy!
