This woman is my heroine. She wins. Really. Hands down. As of my reading her site I must renounce all others' coolness, conceding and recognizing that she is the coolest woman on the planet. Bar none. She doesn't even have to take her clothes off.

Okay, not funny - I know. I'm moving, its boring. A new project starts in two weeks. It has been pushed twice which makes me nervous but that's not particularly unusual - niether the show pushing OR my being nervous. Can't do anything about the former but 5-HTP seems to work for the latter.

C-mon keeps telling me I should update this so I shall...
I have.
I have.
My friend Pamelyn came into town with here new beau, Kevin. The Church was also in town and Pam and Kevin are fans so a little retro 80's pleasure couldn't be a bad thing. Big surprise. The Church played a good bit of new stuff and I have to say I was impressed and pleasantly surprised. It was good to see them not falling back...

Hmm...looks like it's time for an UPdate, my friend.

Hi bro,
Good to chat with you today and hear of all your progress in the moving plans. I'm also pleased to be able to play a role in easing your transition, hopefully.
And thanks for the comments in my journal tonight as well. I revisited it briefly in an attempt to try and remove the apparent whiff of desperation (or "depressive-resignation-to-a-less-than-Utopian-existence", if you prefer) that must emanate from it...but I was unsuccessful. I'll let it stand a few days as a record of one instance of my being truly brutally honest and revelatory online and see if anyone cares. My guess is that there will be a resounding silence, but I'd love to be surprised.
But to answer the larger question you pose in rebuttal, YES! There are TONS of amazing things to do here, and I feel that overall L.A. gets a really unfairly bad rap as a culturally bereft cesspool. My comments were intended more as commentary on certain segments of my peers' pursuits that I feel woefully out of alignment with, not as an indictment of the entire city (or those friends' worth). View them in that context and see if my position isn't clearer.
Thanks for the reminder to visit DT for a laugh, though. I did, and I had a few..including one at your bad joke!
Okay, I'm off. The time stamp you see on this post is not an error: I am in vampire mode and can't sleep, but am about to try again. I'll call later on and hear the rest of your story.
Oh, and at dinner tonight Jim gave me some more details about his potential upcoming gigs and asked if I'd mix them. I told him yes, if you'd boom for me, of course. He has meetings on two of them tomorrow, so we may know something very soon. One of them is likely coinciding with your arrival out here! Wouldn't THAT be cool?
Okay, for real now: bye.

My friend Pam is coming up from Tampa with her new beau today and The Church is playing at the Variety Playhouse tonight. These are things that make me very happy today. Pam and I have not seen each other in five years so I'm looking forward to that a wee bit more than the show.

You are gonna love the trip - even the slow and boring stretches - in a way that can only be felt by those in the process of moving TOWARDS something positive (as opposed to merely heading AWAY from the negative):
That sense of renewal and wonderment will be all too keen as you blast along the 40 (easily the best choice, IMHO) through the deserts of New Mexico and Arizona and finally see the high desert stretch of California unfolding before your very eyes. Six trips later it's still a religious experience for me...plus I like AZ and NM a lot anyway. I never thought I'd "get" the so-called "beauty of the desert", but although I'd still never live there (he says presumptuously), I now certainly do get it...
Was the Church show all you'd hoped? Is Steve clean? Details!

Tonight is the night. Sure, I only boomed it (its up for best screenplay) but American Splendor is the first movie I've been involved with, other than day playing, that has been nominated for an Academy Award. Criticism of the political nature of the Acadamy aside, its kinda groovy. Shari and Rob are awesome, the movie is awesome, they deserve it.

Like I said on the phone, I'm sorry it didn't win, but at least it got made in the first place. And yay that Sophia won in her category!
The Problem with "Pop".
Perhaps it is time for musicians to really separate art from commerce, to "let it go", this question about the "state of pop music" in order to create a new paradigm. Perhaps a lot of musicians have simply lost the plot. The music released by the record industry under the aegis of "pop" needs to be seen, not as music, but...

Nice post. Hopefully the other folks will see it.
I know you probably think I'm having you on, but I miss SMPTE. Too bad you can't sneak her in when you move (hint, hint)...
And though I appreciate the color scheme (and understand the intention; remember, I've read the same book you have), I have two words for you:
It's PINK.
Cheers!

I'm glad you posted that picture of your rig! I always liked it. Now that it's packed up I guess the chances of a BT-like tragedy occurring are pretty slim, eh?
Check out my man frontman's profile and look in his pics. He had a wacky synth there that I think you'd appreciate.
Seeing your setup and remembering all the time spent hanging out there makes me even more glad you're moving out West, my brotha. See you soon!
I may give Courtney a call in a bit to see how her trip is going. I should be editing right now, so naturally I'm more inclined to look at nekkie on the web and write and call my friends instead...
go figure.

Fecking amazing, this. Makes me wonder why MBV, tJ&MC, Lush, Curve, Stone Roses, etc., fell out of favor indeed. Julee Cruise's guest vocals on this are amazing. Go buy it NOW or you'll never see your shoes again!

Fecking sleep schedule is way off. Dismantling my music workstation is becoming a major chore. It needs to be done some time though - time to pack it all up and put it in storage till the move. The "Optofonik Vol. I" EP was done on my laptop, as will Vol....

The long morning after...
I haven't slept - it seems like days. Wandering Midtown in the half light, looking through dark glasses for ghosts in the gray damp morning where there are none. I grew so accustomed to them in Orlando - everywhere. Here, I am no longer haunted. I am the one haunting a city I've never really lived in since I moved here...
