So this is my blog homework for today at least, I'm writing about some awesome fun facts about London! This fantastic city which I have lived in for so many years :D so after looking through this wonderful interweb I have found a few facts which I think are pretty awesome! So here go's :D
• London was founded by the Romans who actually called it Londinium (I didn't actually know that :O)
• If you live in London you are known as a Londoner (haha I wish it sounded better xD)
• There are actually two parts of London, The City Of London which was one of the smallest cities in England and Greater London which was developed around this core. Most of London is contained within Greater London. (:O WOW!)
• In 2012, London hosted the Summer Olympic games! (I wanted to add this fact because I actually worked there!!! I cooked and served the athletes with hundreds of other cooking school student! It was amaaaaaaazing!!!!! <3)
• It is illegal to die in the Palace of Westminster
• Big Ben is the bell, not the clock tower. The famous chime that everyone hears is on the key of E. (haha that rhymed)
• Cock Lane near Holborn Viaduct, didn't get its name from any form of association with poultry but because it was the only street to be licensed for prostitution in the medieval times.
• Jimi Hendrix lived at 23 Brook Street which has been converted into a museum and owned a house in Hanwell (Just down the road from me)
• Great Ormond Street Hospital is a fantastic place, they do amazing work to help take care of ill children. In 1929, author J.M.Barrie gifted the rights of Peter Pan to the hospital.
• Only one house where Charles Dickens lived in still stands at 48 Doughty Street, he wrote Oliver Twist and The Pickwick Papers from between 1837 and 1839. The site has been converted into a museum. :D
• Voltaire, Edgar Allen Poe, How Chi Minh, Mathatma Gandi, Vincent Van Gogh and Sigmund Freud all lived in London for a bit.
