In September of 1991 in the Otztal Alps a mummy was found frozen in ice. This mummy was Otzi the Iceman and is Europe's oldest known human mummy. What I find so special about Otzi is he covered with over 50 tattoos. These tattoos are over 5,300 years old. Most of his tattoos are groups of parallel lines. The placement of these lines correlate with strain-induced degeneration of his joints. These lines are believed to have been related to pain treatment similar to acupuncture. That's 2,000 years before earliest use of acupuncture in China. Wow. :) Now, done with the history lesson. This is my Otzi tattoo, three parallel lines on my thumb joint because it's where I experience pain. I feel kind of nerdy, but I love it. ;) planning on another three on my knee and then a possible Lady of Cao tattoo.
