the mfa has been a big sanity saver for me. i managed in a college po for 3 years after finishing my ba, and...oh, lord. there were valuable lessons to be had, and it looks nice on my resume, and i met a lot of nice people, but when you have a personality that cries out for a direction in life while you're ensconced in a day in day out job? needless to say my mind doesn't cry on me so much now that i'm back in school doing something with a more tangible direction.
so do you write much? i'd be interested to see what you write. it's great to see writers who pay attention to philosophy and theory--for myself, that's so critical to creating enduring, worthwhile art.
my big advice (though you've prob heard it from profs) is to really research the professors and the program's stylistic direction when you're looking at mfa's. i wound up in a program pretty entrenched in traditional, realistic fiction. it's working out for me, but i've had plenty of frustration so far, as someone exploring the boundaries...
if you include Morris day and the time, im in... we could do Jungle Love!
"whats with the porn abstention?" thats the question i keep getting.. it was really doing bad things to my mind... you know things are bad when things you never thought would turn you on are turning you on... it just had to be done for a while...
