And it's happening again. Now someone from the Gaming establishment! An editor from Destructiod has publicly trashed a woman in gaming. The lovely and talented Felicia Day was attacked via twitter and it was not subtle. As I have been outraged by this in the past I have to share it again and thank member WilWheaton for tweeting it in the first place here is what was said.
Now if you don't know Felicia Day is a prominent FEMALE figure in geek and gaming culture. I know where I first saw her, it was in the final season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I kinda fell in love with her character there. Then I didn't hear about her for a while as I got a little busy with life, my son, and trying to keep life together after the army. I saw her again in the Guild a few season's in mind you but that's the glory of YouTube. She has most recently started her own YouTube channel, starred in another web series Dragon Age: Redemption which was a lead in to her character being added to the Dragon Age 2 DLC Mark of the Assassin, and now her own YouTube channel Geek and Sundry which has a quarter of a million subscribers in a matter of a few months. So to say she is nothing more than a glorified booth girl with nothing real to contribute is just the hight of ignorance, and I am ashamed to be a member of the same gender of this person. For any of you on twitter feel free to spam @PissedOfRyno and remind him that this is the year 2012 and not the 1912.
While Destructiod distanced themselves from the editor by stating that they did not support his opinion but thus far have done little else. I'm doing my best not to rage this time, but it is hard. The Geek and Gaming culture saved me from the bullies of my youth, now that's all people are getting exposed to. The Trolls are taking over the internet, and gaming world. They are taking over because the rest of us are being silent and not taking a stand. As I stated before enough is enough and something needs to be done. I've raged on twitter, the few followers I have will really wonder what is going on when they wake up. Most are on the east coast, with the exception of one or two that are in the UK and could be waking up now.
I want to organise something, anything either to build awareness of the problem, or fight against it but I have no idea how or where to start. If anyone has any ideas on what to do let me know. Together AS ONE COMMUNITY we can stop bullies online.
