Yesterday I saw a new australian film set in Jindabyne - SOMERSAULT.
When i first heard about this film - a runaway 16yr old girl flees to Jindy, I thought I have to see this. Particularly when they began comparing it to Lantana, another great aussie flick.
I enjoyed the film though it was painfully slow and the absence of plot of any substance made it slower.
Still, it was fun landmark spotting and the photography, not to mention Abbie Cornish, is gorgeous. There are a few genuinely uncomfortable moments in the film and Abbie manages to pull off the lost little girl wonderfully.
I think the comparisms to Nicole Kidman are a little premature but most respected critics are pretty much going gaga over her.
Its hard not to fall for Heidi, a Lolita, caught in her sexual and emotional awakening (in fucking Jindabyne of all places).

What's funny is that I never saw that guy again after that night. And it didn't matter. We connected on an intellectual level as well as physical. But it was fun, and I keep it tucked away in my mind.
The film you mentioned... I've heard nothing but good things about it. I'd love to see it.
