So over the weekend we went to the most extravagant wedding I have ever been to. Holy Nuptials, Batman! To begin as a gesture just to give an idea, the ceremony was outside in a little enclosed yard area with the chairs set up in front of a wrought iron gazebo type structure. The isle leading up to the gazebo was about 4 feet by 20 feet and solid filled with white rose petals. Not just sprinkled, but a solid bed of rose petals. The ceremony was immediately followed by a champagne toast and appetizers including oysters and sushi. Then more appetizers, two open bars, an outdoor pizza bar, etc. By the way, each appetizer that came with a toothpick or skewer had a custom stick often hand carved and with a flourish. The "Asian meatballs" had a bamboo skewer with a loose not tied in the end. Oh and all of this was before the three course sit down meal. did I mention that they had both a string quartet for the ceremony and a full band with three singers for the reception. I think her dress cost more than our entire wedding did. In some ways I felt guilty that I didn't spring for the $15 tie instead of getting the $10 one to wear with the one suit that I own.
We questioned whether we wanted to go at all and it was a tough decision that we were regretting until we got there. Then we were totally sucked in by the decadence of it all. It turned out to be A LOT of fun. I danced until I sweat through both of my shirts. Oh but it was ok because they had cool, damp towels available on the dance floor to help you keep going.
As we said though on the way home. It was great fun, and we were really glad that we went, but we were also glad that it was not our wedding.
