Hello my little Ducklings,
it's been a while since I've felt like I had time to sit down and write a blog, and today I decided I would make time damnit! So first off, I want to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who checked out Metamorphosis and gave it so much love I was actually overwhelmed! The first hour of Metamorphosis going live I was in a full-blown panic attack just from life and all it's craziness, and when I checked my set the first time and looked at all the sweet comments, while it didn't stop me from shaking it did make me smile. So thank you to every single one of you who wrote sweet messages to me, and posted about my set. I can't even begin to express how thankful I am to be part of such a wonderful online community. <3 And thank you to all the awesome people behind the scenes who keep the site going! <3
I'm sure a lot of you might've already seen some of these shots.. but I did an amazing shoot, in fact a dream shoot last month out at Ruby Beach here in WA and got to be a mermaid for the day! It was truly one of the best days of my life, we had people stopping to take photos, as well as the few who'd non-chalantly walk by and act like they were photographing the rocks.. I see what you're doing! lol. We had a few people come up and ask where we got the outfit, to which my photographer's mom (who slaved over the seashell bra and crown, and custom made the tail to fit my mermaid ass) gleamed and got to tell them she'd made it all herself.
But the best part was the KIDS! We had little kids with their eyes as big as saucers gawking at the mermaid up on the rock, and it made my whole freaking life guys.. Like I cannot even tell you. I remember even saying to my photographer "I feel like one of those Disney Princess' " lol. And apparently we even had a little girl walk by with her mom and turn and point to say "look mommy a real mermaid" .. my heart was happy all the way home, and even thinking about it now it puts a smile on my face, truly an amazing feeling to have created and lived out a fantasy fairy-tale and made it a real life event for any of the kids who saw us on the beach that day! I know if I saw a mermaid at the beach one day as a little girl I would've NEVER forgot it, it would've made an impression on me, and I would've remembered it forever, probably would've even told my grandkids, haha. and it's both weird and amazing to think about being part of that story for someone else one day. And this whole experience has seriously made me contemplate doing mermaid appearances at events and children's partied.. not even kidding.. seeing the kids reactions was one of the most heart-warming things I've experienced in a really long time. And it seems like there's actually a decent market for doing so in Washington, haha.. we have multiple "professional" mermaids locally. Soooo, I may be joining the crew eventually!
Also fun story about the first picture in the blog - it was actually one of the last shots we took, and getting me over to that rock was a serious challenge. I can't even describe the scene properly to convey it, but luckily some asian woman and her husband were filming it so who knows it may end up on youtube somewhere! But basically because the tail was so fitted once it was sewn, and once I got wet it was gonna be way to difficult to get it off and move to different rocks, we decided to try and move me with it on - my photographer's mom was dragging me out to the rock and we got pummeled by waves from behind and basically holding me by my seashells the whole time, so I was happy when we saw the photos, that it ended up being worth it!
And here's a selfie my photographer and I snapped prior to tailing-it-up:
She's so great she braved through the whole shoot, and the 7 hour car ride (roundtrip) while she was 7 months pregnant! I was her final shoot before her maternity leave, but I'm sooo happy we squeezed it in just in time!
Anyways that's my mermaid tale for the time being, I hope to have more mermaid photos to share soon! And be on the look out for my last set currently in queue shot by @jadamsphoto titled "Descent/Return" queued to come out in just about one month from now! Here's a peek:
And a peek at the next set I'm super proud of and I'll be submitting very very soon but still need a name for:
And then I'll finally be submitting the set I shot with @milloux at the shootfest in Oregon from July!
So much good stuffs coming up! I can't wait to share it with you all! <3
xoxo,
Syduck
