So last week's @bloghomework is "What are your favorite lines from movies?" Asking a moviebuff what their favorite movie lines are is like asking a fat kid what he wants to eat at a buffet. I feel the struggle, I am the type of person who if it come up in conversation and can relate to a movie, or TV show, i'll most likely quote it, with no regard for if the group of people I'm around will even know what the hell I'm talking about. So I'm sure i will forget A TON of lines I use on a daily basis, but here's a few I thought of off the top of my head: Keep in mind I have an eclectic movie selection:
Rat Race: and endlessly funny movie that I have seen probably 300 times or more, it has such an amazing comedic cast, and Jon Lovitz is just fucking hilarious, but they end up stopping at "The Barbie Museum" and stealing Hitler's car which results in an atrocious event that is so fucking great. But "I'm not touching it with my mouth, I'm not sucking on the dash board, I'm not getting his germs" has become an insider joke with my mom and I. Along with a bunch of lines from the second clip I included:
"I can do anything I like, I'm eccentric, rawr" - too fucking perfect
"A race, it's a race! I hope I win.." - actually come up more than you would think
The Series Of Unfortunate Events: GUYS NETFLIX IS MAKING AN ORIGINAL SERIES BASED OFF THE BOOKS!!!!!!!! I cannot even tell you ow happy I was when i found out, I didn't read Harry Potter books as a child, or The Chronicals Of Narnia books, like most kids in my class were, I read The Series Of Unfortunate Events "Lemony Snicket's" writings were something I could relate to, I rmemeber reading one of the books and his little snippets where he tries to convince you to "turn back" because this isn't a story of fairytales and elves, and at the time my life was a series of unfortunate events, it seemed on after another something bad would come to follow what had just happened (ex: My great grandfather died, my grandmother stole my mom's flower shop, she then took the inheritance my great grandfather had left us, our house went into forclosure.. ect) so at the time, yeah Wizard's and Wardrobes seemed cool and all, but even though I gladly wasn't an orphan, I felt I could relate to the books inthe sense that the Boudilar children just wanted a stable place to call home, to grow and learn together, and take care of each other. When they finally produced the movie I was SO excited, come to find out they cut the movie RIGHT BEFORE MY FAVORITE BOOK: The Miserable Mill. It's the 4th book in the series, and actually the book i started with as I thought it was the first at the time, and it was so beautifully written and honestly the first series that got me into being a huge bookworm, I remember in class, not wanting to put my books away and just wanting to read, read, read, they were so good, and such well told stories. Even though the movie cut off right before my favorite book they provided me with this quote which I know every word of, and it's something I send/tell my mom any time she gets depressed, because it's so true:
Harold And Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay: I fucking just love this entire movie, and the first one, they are stoner classics, and this scene in particular just kills me. Such an amazing cast, that I've seen both movies to the point where I can almost recite them both word for word.
Springbreakers: This si a short but nessecary clip (IMO) because James Franco did an amazing job portraying a white guy who wants to be black, and let me tell you in Florida they are PLENTIFUL! I know so many kinda I grew up with who are almost the spitting-image of Franco's character from this film, and it's actually funny how much I use this one:
Half Baked: I grew up watching this movie and there are SO many amazing quotes from "I've never been so thirsty in my entire life" to "I love butternut, I mean butterstuff, Buttercup. I love horses!" "Maybe 5...6:30" but nothing tops the enhancement smoker:
"There's a dude sitting in the bushes? Does he have a gun man? I don't know, red team go, red team go!" Haha, never gets old.
Four Rooms: THIS MOVIE! So many lines, I can't even share them all, but that's a Tarantino film, eh? Every room is just a good as the last, and provides even more cheeky lines here's a couple of my favorites, The Misbehavers are endlessly funny "Bottle of champagne, fast!"
and "did your room come with any needles? Because ours did" "We ain't got any needles kid, just a big.. fucking gun!"
And the last room where the famous "Can I offer you a tasty beverage" comes into play.. I don't know if you've noticed, but being a huge Tarantino fan, I have, in most of his movies somewhere either he, or another member of the cast at some point offers someone a "tasty beverage" (ex: Leonardo Decaprio in DJango, Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction, somewhere in Reservoir Dogs I believe as well) and Quentin in Four Rooms though I couldn't find a clip of him actually saying it here's the scene it's from:
Last one from Four rooms, Kathy Griffin plays the manager of the hotel who takes New Year's Eve off and this is the phone call Ted makes, completely fucking amazing and hilarious, one of the reasons I fell in love with Tim Roth as an actor:
Annnnd Pineapple Express: This whole movie is gold, down to "I thought hurricane season was over" but this is one of my favorite scenes I now the entire thing, and recite it back to my mom ALLLL THE TIME. Especially the teacher's part. And the jocky dude's part.
And of course Danny Mcbride's part in the movie is just too funny to pass up:
Plus I always use "Y'all wanna buy some druuuugs" and "Just in here, try'na get a motherfucking scholarship!"
"Herpes is for life bro"
I thought I'd include a few from TV shows as well, because fuck why not?!
HAAAVE to include LOST: This final scene is magic and one day I plan on getting the quote Christian Shepard tells Jack to help him move on, somewhere in the LOST-themed back piece I plan on getting it's such a relevant quote to life, and makes so much sense to be that I find it irrevocably beautiful:
And a few I couldn't find clips for:
Dexter: "Not only can't I kill her, I can't seem to stay away from her either. Even when I'm not with Hannah she's there in my head, when some elements come together they create a reaction that can't be reversed. They transcend chemistry, is this what love feels like? Is this how it begins? Am I even capable of this?"
Annnd last but not least, Grey's Anatomy, to me the holy grail of quotes, and lines to use, Shonda Rhimes (the writer and creator of the show) is an amazing woman who can write like no other, the voice-overs she provides for the characters not only fit the episodes perfectly, but they are usually pretty relatable and just beautifully poetic, here's a couple of my favorites and then I'll be done, if anyone has even made it this far!
Grey's Anatomy: "The waiting can kill you, you make a decision and then the world has to turn. The consequences unfold, out of your hands, there's only one thing that seems clear in those quiet moments while you wait... whatever you chose, was wrong"
"The early bird catches the worm. A stitch in time saves nine. He who hesitates is lost. We can't pretend we haven't been told. We've all heard the proverbs, heard the philosophers, heard our grandparents warning us about wasted time. Heard the damn poets urging us to seize the day. Still, sometimes we have to see for ourselves. We have to make our own mistakes. We have to learn our own lessons. We have to sweep today's possibility under tomorrow's rug until we can't anymore, until we finally understand for ourselves what Benjamin Franklin meant, that knowing is better that wondering... that waking is better than sleeping... and that even the biggest failure, even the worst most intractable mistake beats the hell out of ever trying."
