So, we bought a new car yesterday. A '03.5 Mazdaspeed Protege in metal fleck black. I'm having to relearn how to drive manual with the turbo, but holy crap is it fun. The interior is not as comfortable as the '98 240, but it's definitely a step up in the reliablility area. We were lucky enough to get a warrenty for another 48,000 miles and very decent interest rate.
It's funny because we were down to choosing between this car and a '02 Maxima with every option. The car we have is packed with every available and special edition option, but the difference is night and day. Were I was looking for a car that we could travel in, go grocery shopping in and carry at least two extra passengers in ... well ... I was also mourning the sell of the 240. Where oh where had my sexy sports car gone? And for god's sake, I'm only 26. Am I really old enough to be settling down with a Maxima? Yes, it's responsible, smooth driving, not fast, leather interior, heated seats and decent, (though not impressive), gas mileage. Then we've got the ricer we bought. We're talkin' bumpin' sound system, (450 watt Kenwood), a sporty interior, a somewhat childish exterior, (I admit), but it drives like a dream. It may be a rough ride, but I now understand what one means when they say it drives like it's on rails. This sob is made to be driven fast, it corners like nobody's business and is comfy with four doors to boot. The steering is incredibly responsive and the gear shift is so tight and precise it makes me want to cry with joy. God have I become a dork.
I'm currently looking at new tail lights to put in. The standard ones don't even look as good as what they put on the hatchback. Yep ... dork I am.
