I posted this in the SGNM group, but felt it should go into my journal, too. I have chosen a name, whether I will need it or not: Mayari.
Heh. I don't really want to use my real name. "Mayari" is a filipina name... it's the name of the moon goddess, as I mentioned previously. She and her brother (Tala, I think?) the sun got into a war about who would rule the skies. Once their lights shown equally bright. They warred and battled for days and finally, her brother succeeded in wounding her. He hit her with his spear in the eye.
Feeling remorse, the sun god agreed to share the skies with his sister the moon equally. But because of her lost eye, her light shines less bright. Mayari, according to filipino legends, is a beautiful woman, even with one eye missing.
Well, I'm not going to poke my eye out, but it's a cool story. I've always had a strong affiliation with the moon; I think most women feel a strong affinity with her. I have called upon the moon goddess using a variety of her names: Artemis (Greek moon goddess), Nepthys (Egyptian moon goddess), Diana (Roman moon goddess) and now.. Mayari, the name she was given by the people of the Philippines. I believe it is fitting to choose her name to honor a goddess I've always felt fond of. She's taken good care of me in dark places.
