I don't usually do a new blog this quickly. One thing I've noticed is Nov. 11 is becoming just another day. People aren't wearing poppies. Teachers and instructors are not pausing to remember, they simply continue with what they are doing. Students remind instructors to pause and remember but are told to remember on their own time. An impatient customer waits to pay for the items he's picked at a local department store. An announcement over the store intercom asks all staff and customers to pause and remember for a moment. He refuses and demands to pay for his items. Most customers and staff pause and watch his actions in disbelief. As he leaves the store his 8 year old daughter tugs on his arm and asks why we can't be silent and remember for a moment. I think this is wrong. The least we can do is be thankful! We should remember!
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.
- John McCrae
I'll be working on Nov. 11 but at 11:00am I will pause to remember! And I'll proudly wear my poppy on my uniform!
In conjunction with Nov. 11 Passchendale was released in theaters. This is a great movie I recommend everyone sees it! (This movie was filmed near Calgary Alberta Canada)
