The final part of my trip....
Monday i rented a car after a bit of hassle and was on my way to San Diego via the PCH--Pacific Coast Highway.
It was one hell of a great drive but before that even i saw the Redwoods of Muir Woods. There's something awe inspiring about seeing trees hundreds of feet high and thousands of years old. Truly and inspirational sight as one sees the rays of sun filtered through a canopy of silent majesty 200 feet in the air. With hawks soaring above and streams bubbling and trickling at the foot of the forest, it feels as one's truly been taken back in time.
The Pacific Coast Highwas was next....and it was one greta drive. There's something both exhilierating, thrilling, and scary about doing 70 on windy roads at night that share the edge of a cliff 1000 feet high. You're also surrounded by tons of foliage--from the rugged wet forested land scape of the north, tapering down to the rocky, hay colored scrub land of the south, it's a marvelous drive full of wonder and mistique. It reallly made me appreciate this state on a new level.
Driving all the way down was a really fun time until i got to LA and experienced firsthang the dreaded traffic of that hellish spot on the Pacific. It took me 3.5 hours to get through LA (and i have a feeling i got off light) and only an hour and fifteen minutes to get to San Diego 90 miles away. Ugh..i never, ever nerver erver want to go back to LA for any reason.
So i arrived in San Diego in the evening on Tuesday and been here ever sinse. On Thursday my cousin visited and we went down to Tijuana. Let me tell you, there's no place friendlier than Tijuana where they're always trying to offer you stuff. Example:
"Senor, we have vicoden, viagara, valium..."
"I'm 23, what makes you think i need viagara?"
"How bout cocaine, speed, heroine or weed?"
"Ummmmhhh...not interested."
Otherwise it's a pretty decent place. Not nearly as hot as i expected and not nearly as poor either. Revolution Avenue is where it's at though.
On friday, i headed to Del MAr beach and proceeded south. After about 2 hours walking south and seeing some awesome hang gliders and parasailors, i noticed something a bit off. Naked people. Well...mostly dudes and mostly older which i didn't want to see, but further south i stumbled into the coed area which was a relief. I had stumbled on Black's Beach which is a clothing optional beach in the area. After walking around for about fifteen minutes i finally settled down and figured: "What the hell, when in Rome..." And off came the clothes. It was pretty interesting and strangely liberating to be in my birthday suit about complete strangers both male and female. Not enough to turn me into a dedicated nudist, but enough to get me to want to come back...might hit that up tomorrow.
Today i saw the Wildlife Park in San Diego where they have tons of endangered species from all over AFrica living in a protective environment as close to natural as possible. I must admit to being rather impressed with how much care and love went into the maintaining and breeding of these animals--many of whom were brought back from the brink of extinction. It was pretty sweet. Usually zoos kinda depress me as i don't think wild animals should be caged, but this one was allright by me. I understand that many animals around today wouldn't exist if not for the zoos they're in, but still i hate the necessity.
Which brings me to right now...I'm wanting to go to SG Burlesque in San diego tonight but pretty damn sure i'm not going to be able as i just can't explain to my bro why i'm going to a burlesque show for a porn site conservative christian that he is. Oh well..a few more wonderful days here and i'm back to shitty Pittsburgh.
Give a shoutout to my girls Fleur and Nicolelee for both having their bad selve's sets going up this week. LAter peepz.
