I have an ear infection. It hurts like a real son of a bitch...and i just used the last of my donated codein. I need to see a doctor tomorrow. First it was in one ear, then that ear got a lot better, but it spread to the other ear. Fuck. Hopefully i'll be able to get some sleep tonight and see the doc later....

I remember Honky Tonks. Cover charges are, unfortunately, a necessary evil to weed out potential customers showing up to just get drunk. Oh well, c'est la vive.

I'm supposed to transition to the Guard around the end of the year, but that's contigent on a deal I'm trying to work out with UNC regarding tuition rates. The plan is to study International Relations and get a cush job at an Embassy in Europe (pref. Greece). Ah, the dreams. smile
phoebus:
Yeah, I figured they'd eventually go that route. Some clubs had already implemented an informal policy similar to the one you mentioned before I left. It didn't stop my long-haired ass, though. wink

I've heard of incidents of the sort you've described--sometimes it was GIs being retarded, and sometimes it was the locals who instigated. It just goes to show you that stupid is a international trait.

Long awaited p;ictures forthcoming in a day or two. Resizing scanned pics is such a pain in the ass blackeyed

I often feel like i'm missing out on all kinds of shit back home. But really, when i look at my pics and remember what i've seen, i realize i'm not missing stuff back home, but rather gaining things here. Thinking of it that way makes...

Ok, so i'm back in Korea now....ugh.

So, sinse my last update i did ride an elephant which was way rad (they're BIG) and i did ride the jet ski. The jet ski was awesome as i got some pretty sweet jumps of about 10-15 feet because of the big waves. BUT, my legs have never been so sore in my ENTIRE life They still...

Pingpong shows are...in a word...mind boggling. Ok, so that's two words, but accurate nonetheless. It's so surreal seeing the things coming out of there. A string of needles neatly arranged onto a pin cushion, a string of RAZOR BLADES eeek , coke bottles, ping pongs, darts being shot at balloons, cigarettes being smoked from it, bananas launched 3 or 4 feet into the air.... My god...I...

I'm glad to hear that you are doing so well over there. It must be so cool to experience all those different things and see such a change of culture.

Mike thinks that you are dead so maybe you should let him know you are not.

So i'd like to say that our calmness during the Tsunami warning the other night was due to our sheer bravery and heroism...but in fact was the result of being stoned and waiting for our food hehe. Not to worry though, no Tsunami. Apparently they pretty much have to issue a warning every time there's an earthquake anywhere around here.

In other news, i'm gettting...

In a tropical paradise BITCHES! Not bad for a lower middle class kid from the suburbs of Pittsburgh. Phuket is amazing...but the peepz here are like parasites as far as trying to get you to buy shit. Not that i blame them...but saying, "No, thank you," gets more than a bit tiring after an hour or so.

It's so hard to believe this place was...

Wow, phuket!!! That is very, very exciting. I've seen some amazing pictures that make me want to visit there. How's the veggie cuisine there? I would imagine better than Korea.

BTW, AC is up and running finally! Woohoo!! Happy Gabriel and happy kitties! biggrin

Thank you all so much for the b-day wishes!!!! It warms my heart to see so many of you from so far away wishing me a happy birthday when so far from home. I'll get back to you all as soon as i get the time, but with Harry Potter just being released, my time is well...consumed with Potter. Yes, i'm one of those people...

Congrats on the negative test results. And yes, I think I'm probably leaving at the end of the month. It's a bit distracting, and I haven't the patience for most of the morons on the boards...

But then again, maybe I'll stay. wink

Damn credit cards...i pick the one year when all of them will expire to live abroad and work. ugh.

So this weekend i was supposed to wake up ass early on a saturday morning and catch a bus to the train station to catch a train to Busan (Korea's second largest city and fourth [some say third] largest container port in the world.) <--that has to do with boats...errr ships in case anyone was wondering. But i digress....

Anyways, i was supposed to get...

Yeah, everything's cool... but not really.

I'm glad the ROK's treating you well for a change. Funny, I kind of miss the Land of the Morning Calm in a way. More accurately, I miss the idea of being able to do cool things like going to Busan for the weekend... which I couldn't do if I was there... so... yeah.

How's work treating you?

Well i guess it's about time i update this piece eh?

I just haven't really been in a corresponding mood or anything lately....but here goes what's happened in the past few weeks. The short, short version of things as uber long journals are just tedious to read, but i digress.

So i nearly got fired a few weeks back because os my korean supervisor being...

Hey, don't let the Land of the Morning Calm get you down. Pretty much everyone I know whose shared in your experience found their year there to be a crucible of sorts. You learn a lot about yourself, your ability to do some pretty assinine things--where both money and people are concerned--and your ability to adapt.

Hell, if I wasn't in penny-pinching mode, I'd volunteer for another tour to knock out the remainder of my contract. But then, the idea of having to go back to base at midnight (lest I turn into a pumpkin and go to jail) kind of sucks.
phoebus:
It really depends on the service. I'm fairly sure that only guys who are in trouble have to sign it/out.

My problem was that, being stationed in Osan/Songtan, there really wasn't much around I could escape to (Pyongtaek not being that much of a hot spot). Yeah, I had my Hongdae weekends (ah, Stompers), but, man, those Sunday hangover bus-rides back to Osan a pain in the ass! wink
