Japan was pretty fantastic! I saw a little humanoid robot doing cartwheels in the street and bowing and waving. That was the pinnacle of the trip really--well getting to meet Fenchurch and some other SGers was the real highlight.
We got faced at this Irish Pub, The Blarney Stone, where we saw a pretty wicked covere band play. Well, they were pretty wicked until they... Read More
I've been meaning to update, but it seems like everything's so hectic lately. Case in point, I have to rush off today on account of my Godson being born!
Turning Japanese, I think I`m turning Japanese, I really think so.
In Osaka Japan right now and loving it. It really is the Land of the Rising Sun--it came up at like 430 this morning! People dress crazy here and it`s absolutely fantastic. More on Monday or Tuesday.
Edit: Strange stuff seems to happen when i go away on trips. Coworkers doing the midnight run... Read More
So, cooking can be a bit of a bitch here. See i don't have a kitchen or kitchen facilities in my apartment. However, if i walk down the hall, there's a hot plate and a microwave--well there used to be two hotplates, but one got stolen... Read More
So the new job is pretty fucking sweet! In a way I'm back at Uni, but now i'm "Full Time Lecturer"! Hahaha! That's odd as i never imagined myself as a University Prof. Well technically i'm not. I'm really an Elementary School teacher for the City of Onyang, near Asan-Si about 40 minutes south of Seoul by Bullet train. However, the University is my employer.... Read More

Hello! I was told by Damon_Shadow that you were in Korea, and I have to ask: how are you getting by/enjoying it? I'm considering trying to teach english there, and while I have been to Seoul for a few weeks back in the 90s, I don't have a clue how the scene is for westerners right now. Any advice or ideas? Are you teaching or studying? I'd love any insight. Thanks!
Yes that's right folks, Max16Characters is back and this time he's black ermmm...yeah back in America that is and um on the site too. But only for a limited time only (back on the site that is as i signed up for the year membership). I go back to Korea on the...well...i'm not exactly sure when--it depends on the visa situation which... Read More
Damn, you're going back in less than 24 hours? But you just got back! As for the beer, Japanese beer is far better than corporate domestics in the states IMO. Yuengling recently came to Florida, where I'm from, so I am familiar with it and it is pretty good. IMO Kirin Ichiban is the best big brew, though Asahi Super Dry's pretty nice sometimes too. So are the Japanese brands priced differently over in S. Korea? Sapporo, Asahi, and Kirin all cost the same over here. Agreed that Sapporo isn't as good, but sometimes it's nice for a change. The big thing I get sick of re. Japanese beer is that there aren't many non-lagers.
Re. Korean beers, I had Hite once and it is absolute shite. My girlf brought back some kind of 18% rice wine (maybe?) from Seoul that's pretty damn tasty, though a little sweet. Any luck with the more indigenous drinks?
Christ it's been a while sinse i updated this bitch eh?
Reflections on a year in Korea.....
Last year at this time i was just starting to get adjusted to the bewildering maze of life that is Korea. Figuring out how to use public transportation in this odd land (for basically the first time in my life; figuring out what to eat (being veggie in... Read More

It wasn't a primary consideration, but it was definitely a selling point. Only the abjectly stupid buy real estate in South Louisiana without knowing their elevation and ground clearance, 'cause while this was catastrophic, minor, temporary flooding happens all the time. I've seen parts of uptown that were bone dry this time under two feet of water from a summer squall.
This catastrophe of Hurricain Katrina is just unreal. I feel so helpless all the way out here. I wish i could go back home and help out in some way, shape or form, but there's nothing i can do except donate money which i will be doing as soon as my new credit card arrives. I feel impotent about this...soooo frustrated and hurting.
I'm with you on this one. As soon as I get my student loan next week, I'm going to send some money their way. This is beyond heartbreaking. I wish I could do more.
So, my contract expires the first week of January and now it's time to start thinking about what to do after that point. I've hatched one hell of an ambitious plan from my brain and it goes a little something like this:
Fly from Seoul to Prague and achieve a CELTA Cirtification which would make me fully qualified to teach English in any country in... Read More
