I just added a new folder to my pics, from last weekends wonderful adventure. I know it doesn't mean anything to you, because you don't know those people and you probably don't know me. But, I just spent a fuckload of time uploading and modifying those pics, and it WAS the best weekend of my my life. So someone should see it. It should be you. If you knew the back story, would it be more interesting? Here it is :
I have never been a 'music person'. Music has never affected me the way it seems to with other people. I always preferred a book on tape, or talk radio, or something like that. That is, until I discovered Tom Waits. Tom Waits, who's whiskey-rot voice brings me to tears, who's soul torn ballads pierce my heart, who's melancholy melodies warm my marrow.
I was introduced to Tom by Him (you know, every girl has a Him). Tom was the soundtrack to our relationship, was playing when we broke up, and nursed me through the bitter winter that followed. Tom saved my life. Around that time my friend G was just getting together with her boyfriend,D, another avid Tom Waits fan. D lived in Seattle and the long distance was hard. G and I would listen to Tom and only Tom. Me, mourning true love lost, and G, waiting for true love to get his ass down here.
Skip ahead 2 years. Tom Waits is old. The word on the street is that he's been sick and won't tour again. Then, a few weeks ago he released his latest album. Me and G and D began sluething around on the internet, wondering if he would tour. We finally discovered he was set to play one show, one show in all of America, on a Monday night in Seattle.
The morning the tickets went on sale we there at the ticketmaster. Tickets sold out in 30 seconds. But some how and magically we ended up with 4 tickets. G and D, me,...and I invited Him. It was only appropriate.
So we bought plane tickets on credit cards and blew off our lives to fly 900 miles to see Tom Waits play his only American show, perhaps his last American show, and it was good friends and good times and I cried through the entire show, and it was the best night of my life.
Now look at my pictures.
