oh, what now my suicidefriends?

matter-eater lad is stumped.

today, i bought a new book by gary lutz. here's a sentence:

"she was a milk-warm girl in bad odor with herself, glad to have at last come down in the world."

is it possible he's better than he was? can gary lutz really do the one thing i didn't think he could do: make me love his work all the more?

last night, "someone" went out with me for a beer. we played texas hold 'em for stories. like this: for an ante, i offered the story of the laundry jesus. first round, i bet the disco duck story. third round? the swing set.

she won. i told the stories.

in fact, i knew i was going to lose. i wanted to tell the stories. shhh.

so, i like her. a lot. but, she's skittish. she spooks. i'm working hard not to frighten her away.

i think i'll fail.
