the continuing adventures of me making my way home from work
went to an open mic night to listen to the little red-haired girl sing her new sad, sad song. and read a couple of my short, short stories.
walked the little red-haired girl home. after that, i walked to the bus past a squat man in a gi (well, half a gi...he didn't have the pants on) practicing kicks at a stop. and, not doing a very good job of it. low, off-balance kicks. he nearly fell over.
as i walked next to the stop, he followed and shadowboxed with me. i ignored him, as he was, clearly, a loon.
down the sidewalk a piece, i heard him call after me. his voice was quiet, and echoed. "hey, i wasn't gonna hit you. i'll be your friend forever..." he said more, but traffic drowned his voice out.
the bus ride was uneventful. i read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and sat next to an old woman with little sprouts of facial hair.
got off at my street, and started the 20 minute stroll to the hovel. a man kept pace with me on the opposite side of the street. he was singing. tenor. it sounded of light opera, of gilbert & sullivan.
