As for SGNY - my guess is, the last time you applied there wasn't anyone already in the group who knew you. You have to have someone vouch for you to be admitted. Actually, it's funny you bring up that point about technology, I just got to that section in the book. He shows a really interesting correlation between the average number of words in a sentence in the most popular books of the time and the time when at least 75% of the population owned a radio, telephone, television, and internet-capable computer. It seems like there's a significant decrease in the number of words (hence a shorter attention span) as the pace of our technology gets faster. The punchline is Tom Clancy, and he shows some pieces from his book Executive Orders where he's averaging like 5 words a sentence.

I am beat; last nigh I went to a good friends open house. She works for a graphics / production company; anyway they had food, an open bar, a masseuse, and a tarot card reader. It was a good little shin dig. I got home early, the trains and bus worked out well. I should get back to work..
