A friend of mine recieved a nude picture on her e-mail from a guy she went out on a date with. She was absolutely horrified by this. She kept asking me, "Why would anyone think that was OK???"
My reaction would have been completely different. I went to Hippy stuff for a while, I've been a photographer for some time, and I've been doing body art, too... So I'm always seeing naked people, seeing pictures of naked people, even occasionally touching naked people. It doesn't phase me.
She's seen her fair share of naked people, and is even OK doing nudity on film (she's an actor). All the guy really did was violate etiquette... The rule of thumb for online dating is:
"If you wouldn't do it in a bar, don't do it on the net."
I don't know anyone who would walk up to someone they'd just met, and hand them a naked picture of themself. Well, I know a couple people, but they're used to being slapped.
The thing that gets me is, he didn't do anything wrong, it didn't even offend her. But now she's not talking to him, because he violated etiquette...
It has more to do with principles than anything else. The guy was being inconsiderate, and I suppose that if he's that inconsiderate, he would be a lousy boyfriend, etc. etc. But what's at the root of all this?
