Four people were found dead in a Tokyo apartment early Sunday, apparently after they joined in a suicide pact and gassed themselves to death, police said.
The four were found in a small room in the Nerima-ku apartment at about 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, after a friend of a man living there received a key and a note in the mail, prompting him to visit, police said. Police are working to identify the victims.
Inside the room, whose sliding door had been taped shut, were the burnt remains of briquettes, leading police to conclude that the four had killed themselves through carbon monoxide poisoning. Investigators said they had found what appeared to be suicide notes.
