Two women were found dead in a car parked here in what appeared to be a suicide pact after a local police station received a letter with information on their location, investigators said.
At around 2:30 p.m., Monday, Tsukuba Chuo Police Station received a letter from an anonymous person saying, "We are going to commit suicide by burning briquettes near a forest road on Mount Tsukuba. Please find us."
A youth who killed his parents as they slept by smashing their heads with a dumbbell was arrested Wednesday, police said.
Police received an emergency call from the 19-year-old at about 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, saying, "I've killed my parents."
When they arrived at his home in Mito, they found his 51-year-old father, a junior high school teacher, and his 48-year-old mother dead. They immediately arrested him on suspicion of murder.
