Having taken a lot of flak for going AWOL, I thought I'd put out something I wrote before I left the Navy. Seems like a hundred years ago, and looking back at that faded chickenscratch brings a smile to my face. If I could do it all over I wouldn't change a thing. Life for me began when I was
GOING AWOL
I'm a shepherd of the seas
Trying to impress
In darkness
In sadness
And whirlwinding thought
In my pageantry
My madness
It was my crime
In search of peace
To enlist
Something strange in me
I confess
A proudness
But nevertheless
The point's that I'm caught
And now I'm guilty
And it's all pointless
Biding my time
As I cease
To exist
Everything I wanted to be
In distress
And vagueness
My life's a mess
Was it all for naught
My newfound ability
Along with rashness
Is making me climb
And increase
Instead of slashing my wrist
I agonized nightly
And not sorrowless
'Twas forced more or less
Starting over- YES
Doing just what I ought
Adventure awaits me
And worldliness
But not in this mime
And not on lease
I hate to be sorry
And I hate to be missed.
