So while I have been in Athens I have been to the Acropolis (which is under a makeover right now and has scaffolding all over it), the Zeus Temple, and the Plaka. Tried to go to the National Archaeological Museum, but it was closed for renovation. I was very dissapointed because it is supposed to be the best one in Greece. Oh well
I had an interesting day yesterday. Tried to catch a train to Thessaloniki (northern Greece) so that I could get an overnight train to Sofia, Bulgaria. I haulled all my gear (which isn't easy, especially in the heat) over to the train station. On the way I took the wrong subway and had to turn around. Finally got there and had to wait in the ticket line for an hour only to find out that all the trains for the day were full! So I decided to stay another day and set off for a new hostel (the other one was booked up). I didn't exactly now where it is so I took the subway to the closest stop and decided to take a taxi. Usually when I take a taxi, I ask for the fare beforehand, but for some reason I didn't and I got ripped off! So yesterday was a bad day. After checking in, I went back to the train station and waited in line again and bought a ticket.
On the other hand, the Euro Cup is going on now in Portugal (soccer). It started the week I arrived. I have been keeping up with it. This is the first time Greece has ever made it to the semi finals. They played France last night and WON, against all odds! It was complete madness in the streets. There was a parade of people and cars waiving Greek flags and chanting. It was incredible. Never seen anything like it.
Found out Sofia, Bulgaria is one of the highest capital cities in Europe, so it is bound to be cooler, right? Hopefully I be there this time tomorrow if everything goes alright.
