I don't believe in romantic love. I think our bodies have been evolutionized to the point that enforcing this moral on it hurts our psyches more than helps it, because we feel it's unnatural to stay with and love eternally one person, yet we try to force ourselves, because our culture (thanks to the fucking Puritans) says it's the right way to do it... but evolution tells us to fuck every eligible mate to ensure the survival of the species.. hence the contradiction, so I don't believe that love is natural, I think love was invented by conservative religion. HOWEVER... I do believe in positive energy being misinterpretted as romantic love, and I think the universe is built upon energy, much of which is positive, therefore I believe much of the universe is comprised of, for lack of better words, "love" and "hate"...I believe I can feel positive energy toward someone, they can radiate it back to me, and it can feel good and feed us both... but love, and marriage, and forever... no... don't believe in that

Wow, you said a mouthful. I do believe in romantic love, but not how you defined it. I don't think it has to be just between two people or that it has to last forever, but I think it's still there. I think it's easier to stick with one person, and less people get hurt that way, but that doesn't make it "true" and everything else "false." It's one way among many.
As far as evolution, I think they've shown that certain animals are coded for more monogamous relationships, and I believe humans are among them. Again, doesn't make it right, just evolution doesn't tell you to fuck anything and everyone willy-nilly. We have the gift of rationality that other animals don't seem to have, and we use that to determine what works best for us.
As far as the energy goes... umm, I don't know. I don't think the universe is made of "love" and "hate," I think they're complex hormonal reactions like any other emotion that we have. But that doesn't cheapen them in my mind; just because my emotions are all in my head doesn't mean they're not real to me.
Oh, and sorry for using your journal as a soapbox, MaryBee. Xip started it.
