Eeeeps! It's been ages since I've blogged, again. Sorry.
My last blog was on April 20th... so lemme see... what has happened since then?
* the fella that I work for and I have birthdays really close to one another, so we had a joint karaoke birthday party
* Easter! Easter was pretty fun - my ex husband came to stay with us again for a week, and of course the kids loved that. I got a rad book called How to Sew a Button and Other Nifty Things Your Grandmother Knew. Anyone who likes vintagy/diy stuff would probably get a kick out of it.
* Speaking of books! I found The Golden Compass (aka Book I of the His Dark Materials Trilogy) at a used book store; I had wanted to read it for some time, remembering the controversy over the movie when it came out (daemons and anti-Christianity and whatnot). I read the first one so darn fast that merely days later I was hunting down the second and third books. I got all three at different used book stores, which was cool (I could spend days and days in those places. The first two books are clearly aimed at younger readers, despite the very dark subject matter. I have never cried SO hard while reading. I became very attached to the characters... Philip Pullman is a very effective author, for serious.
* Mah birfday. It was pretty great
We had a couple nice dinners with the family - one at home and one at a restaurant. My father and my brother didn't wish me a happy birthday til nearly two weeks after the fact
Oh well. It was really nice otherwise. My mom gave me two tickets to see The Pixies in concert (EEEEK!) as well as a new hoodie. My grandmother gave me a diary set and $31 (cos that's how old-ass I am now
) I bought a shirt at the concert with that money. My kidlets gave me a pug statue for my garden
* Mother's Day. Also awesome. My daughter bought me a Marvel t-shirt and some candy, and my son made me a card and a puzzle at school. Awwww. Heckler gave me a pot with a kitteh on it and some pretty flowers to plant ♥
* Tadpoles! We've had them for about 2.5 months now, starting from lil eggs. They are just starting to climb out of the water with hands and lil legs and everything. They still have their tails. What a cool experience it's been watching them grow! We'll release them back to the pond we caught them from when they are fully grown.
* Tattoo! I went to the home studio I had mentioned in my last blog. It was amazingly clean, and everything was disposable, so I went for it. I got an "Expecto Pugtronum" tattoo
For those familiar with Harry Potter, my patronus is a Pug. For anyone unfamiliar with Harry Potter... what's wrong with you? LoL, I kid, I kid. I'll post pics when it's all healed, but man, I'm really digging it. I had two sessions and it cost me $80 in total. This fella is an apprentice and he's just building his portfolio. I can't wait to go back for moar!
* Gardening! Heckler and I have been working on starting a garden
In fact, the topsoil for our 8'x8' garden should be arriving here in about an hour - I'm excited! We've started peas, spinach, garlic, beets, rhubarb, basil, chives, leeks, oregano and a couple other things. I love gardening with him.
* I love having my Heckler here, just sayin. He's so helpful and handy around the house! He has built me a planter, and even a composter for our garden. He is also a FANTASTIC cook
I'm a lucky girl. Just having him close is so very special, seriously.
* Work! It is kind of sucky for me, but I'm still keeping at it. Heckler has been at his new job for nearly two weeks now - I think he likes it. I'll let him tell you about it though.
* Gym! Just yesterday I started back at the gym - partly to prepare for surgery, partially for weightloss. I'm feeling like a chunkeh monkeh.
* Fambly! My brother has been gone for about a month and a half now, living with our grandparents in the city. He likes it, from what I hear. Our half-sister is there most of the time, so he gets to hang out with her often, which is nice for both of them. My mom is hardly here anymore, so it's mostly just Heckler, the kids and I. And my mom & brother's pets have kind of adopted us.
Stuff I'm looking forward to:
* on June 9th I have an appointment in Vancouver (pretty much a 5 hour trip from home) with an orthopedic surgeon who is able to perform the Burnese Osteotomy on my hip. I may not get a surgery date for a while yet, but I am excited to learn the fate of my hip.
* we're on a waitlist to become a foster home for rescue pugs! I srsly can't wait!!!
