Chicago Bands and Industry , FREE Seminar w/ Me! June 21/22
I wanted to invite you to my label offices for a free seminar/info session on any one of a two different days - If you don't know anything about me - here we go
I have had Invisible Records for the last 19 years and released over 350 CDs in that time. I own the Mattress Factory Studios, I've recorded and produced countless albums from Gravity Kills to Pigface to Snapline from China. I have spent the last four years teaching The Business of Touring at Columbia College Chicago and guest lecturing around the world. Since 1996 I have been putting together multi-band package tours and have spent time as a member of: Public Image Limited, Killing Joke, and Ministry (the Cage Tour). I formed the bands Murder Inc., The Damage Manual and Pigface along with performing with Nine Inch Nails on the "Head Like a Hole" video and the Grammy winning "Wish."
I have been conducting free seminars in my offices for the last several years and I wanted to extend an invitation to you to come down, grab some Red Bull, coffee and donuts, and chat a bit with other people like yourselves and get some free informationEverything from merchandise to agents to transportation to sex on the road and 61 strategies for a more successful show, how to be a better opening band, karma, riders, contracts, immigration, creating your own event and so much more. I don't know if we are looking to sign any new artists at this moment, but it will give you a sure-fire opportunity to meet with a real label owner and link up with some other individuals active in the industry and across the country.
In the meantime, you can get a head start by checking out my band advice column right here on Suicde Girls!
There are two events during the weekend of MOBfest:
Thursday, June 21, 11am - 3pm
Friday June 22, 11am - 3pm
All you have to do is email UndergroundIncPromotions@gmail.com to RSVP for the day you'd like to attend, and we'll send you directions to the Underground Inc. offices.
I am also very excited to announce the coming of Tour:Smart, the first real book on touring. The book (which is still at the printer, so I can't guarantee it'll be ready during these sessions) is a distillation of 30+ years in the business and features a stunning array of luminaries and lunatics from the real world of touring. Hundreds of years of experience, triumphs, and catastrophes crammed into 580 pages including contributions from Henry Rollins, Cynthia Plastercaster, Zim Zum, Kevin Lyman, Chris Connelly and many more! From managers, to journalists, to publicists, agents and beyond, Tour:Smart covers it all. (www.tstouring.com)
We will be discussing a lot of that vital information, inciting riotous conversation and answering as many questions as possible
Hope to see you then.
Peace, Love, Respect and safe travels,
Martin Atkins
