Thank you guys so so much for all of the love on Dark Matter! Your feedback is always something I appreciate deeply and I love bringing this kind of content to Suicide Girls for all of you! I love keeping my sets themed and I try my very best to make sure each and every one says a little something about me, even if they are different in style and general energy each time!
This particular set was collaborated on with someone very close to me. We discussed a possible masculine energy for this photoshoot, as in my personal life, I have far more of an aggressive masculine energy than perhaps my photos come across. It's difficult to always be entirely true to your personality and convey these aspects while still keeping things looking feminine and graceful. I am RARELY feminine and graceful in my personal life. So, upon hearing a possible masculine approach, I had a vision of a 1920's woman with a more traditional "male" looking wardrobe. I had slacks and suspenders planned for this look, and wound up being unable to use them. I was upset about it upon arriving at the shoot, but ultimately let it go, as I felt the hair and makeup did a lot of the heavy lifting for the concept, as well as my desire for the shoot to be in B&W and OF COURSE, the beautiful studio.
When styling this look, I really wanted something that would bring out my natural features, but wouldn't feel entirely "costumey" or themed. The hair was most difficult, but most worth it. I love the movement and design it gives the entire look. This particular set and concept I'm quite fond of, as I think it showcases a different skillset from myself as well as my photographer @Seitan when we decided to go for something so bold. I often hear things like "That's too much" or "Are you supposed to be doing something so heavily themed?" and honestly, I take those comments with a grain of salt. If anyone ever wants to take a little piece of advice from dear old Mars, I will ALWAYS encourage an honestly and truth with yourself and what you WANT to be doing rather than what someone else has told you is better. Go with your gut, create something beautiful and wonderfully you! I love to be inspired by other beautiful women and men and their creativity. My driving motive is to be the inspiration I would have loved to have as a young girl, and that is what I always keep in mind when planning and conceptualizing my work.
I will continue to strive for better and better each time I create, and I hope that some of these concepts have inspired all of you to do something fun and slightly different with your own work! I look forward to the future of Suicide Girls and seeing everyone's amazing and creative concepts! Go for ALL OF IT, ladies and gents.
