"seeking a friend, for the end of the world."
4 more years of BU_ _ SH_ _.
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I read an article online somewhere discussing the vatican's belief that Bush may possibly be the antichrist. It makes sense in my head. alas babylon... for in one hour your judgement has come.
So no more trees, no more love, no more peace. My friend once said... "if big buisness wanted you dead, Bush would have had you killed by now." I actually cried today for the state of our nation. Maybe it's just me... but I think this will have enormous consequences. One can only hope that things won't get worse. Hope... such a funny word. In greek mythology hope was one of the things pandora unleashed to the world. It was an evil, not a good. People see it today as something that is great... what does that tell you about the world you are living in. Blind hope leading the blind.
Oh man.. I think there is a conspiracy between certain branches of the government and certain "terrorist" goups. Think about it. If you could get them to do stuff so that you could get what you wanted... the public would never think that we would be behind attacking out own people. We did give them the weapons they have (during the cold war). It could happen. Then again.. I'm still convinced that we knew peal harbor was going to be attacked and yet did nothing. The evidence is there.
So I watched part of a documentary on Lennon yest. The government had been keeping secret files on him (most people know this). They still have certain files that they won't release... interesting.... the plot got thicker, but I've got bigger fish to fry right now.
So my friend, who is also a member of this site, wrote something that sums up a lot of my thoughts. I'm posting what he wrote here... I still have to talk to him and see if it's ok if I reveal his identity. So for now, we'll just leave it at this. It's what he wrote this morning before he went to sleep:
These are the times that try men's souls...
I'm not sure why Thomas Paine is the easiest man to quote in American History. Perhaps it's because his observations seem so easily applicable to the eternal strife within American politics. North Carolina has chosen a veritable fascist over a good and honest individual, and in doing so has decided the senate for the Republican Party. But I will not dwell on partisan issues. Rather, now is the time that I will embrace the charter and the ethics of the International City/County Management Assoication that I have so recently joined. I will not talk about politicians and politics, but I will reserve my right to talk about the next four years that we as Americans face.
To quote Thomas Paine is somewhat innapropriate specifically because the words that follow his famous quote are words of resolution and of hope. I can provide resolution, but in the next four years of life in America, I cannot provide hope. That burden rests upon your individual soul.
The political outcome that seems all too likely means that our lives as American citizens of either party will be difficult in the next four years, and perhaps for decades to come. We can look forward to four more years of increasing partisan strife. A divide that is literally tearing the United States of America apart. The chasm between social conservatism and social tolerance will grow even deeper and even wider. Horrifyingly, it will turn more violent. We can look forward to four more years of rhetoric rather than reason behind our behavior as a nation. We can look forward to four more years of economic and environmental decline, inextricably linked and so terrifyingly unimportant to a nation that remains shocked by a phantom threat, that materializes so rarely, but so definitively. We can look forward to four more years of a powerful nation declining in its position of influence and power in the world.
This is the time that tries our souls, this is the time that we must stand more aggressively and resolutely for those things we believe in. This is the time that we must not falter in our war for those things that as American citizens we hold most dear. Our liberties will come under more and constant assault. Our ideals will suffer constant disparagment and criticism. We will be called unpatriotic and supporters of terrorism for believing that some elusive and indefinable concept such as freedom is more important than life itself, and that we should not sacrifice it in the face of a threat as impotent as the power that we wield in the world is becoming.
I won't talk about politicians, but I have spoken about the undeniable and tragic schism that we have suffered. A schism that will do nought but grow wider. These words sound partisan, but I argue that no matter your party and no matter your belief, the partisanship that has this nation has accepted will be a scythe that cuts the reaper as surely as it cuts the grain.
The presidential election has not been resolved, but Ohio and Florida have fallen. It's 1a.m. and there are no miracles to be had tonight. I'm going to sleep.
