FILM MUSIC UPDATE since bloody November! Well you haven't been caught up on the Mark bandwagon hahaha, here's a good point to join. Back in Mid January I started my internship doing film music under the guidance of Klaus Badelt. Klaus has did the music for Pirates of the Caribbean, Poseidon, 1/2 of Gladiator (with Hans Zimmmer), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Equilibrium, etc...and it's been craaazy! I've been here pretty much 7 days a week for at least 12 hours a day now. It's completely and utterly exhausting...and yes, I have been living off coffee, determination and ambition. Right now we're working on 3 pretty big movies and THE OLYMPICS! It's intense..Klaus is doing the most of the music for the Olympics including the closing ceremonies tentatively entitled Fire Dance (which I helped for a minute with !) Needless to say I'm doing all the bitch and grunt work, which is expected, but I've been showing my talent and hard work in musical fields too here and there when asked. Since it's a small crew here, the number one thing is to get along with everyone and show them I'm just as committed as they are. I'm here when they get here in the mornings, and I don't leave until the last one does. AND... one night we were at Klaus' house and he just got his piano tuned that day. Well one of his assistant composers told me to go ahead and play it, to see how in tune it was etc. Well, after playing for about 20 seconds, I got ballsier and just went off..playing whatever my little heart felt at that time, and Klaus came in thoroughly impressed. Hahaha, so as puerile as it may seem, I was happy for a few days =)
Sometimes it's tough to stay positive being that I drive over an hour to get here in the mornings, and go through $20 of gas a day all for just an experience. But, ya never know...I'm learning SO much on technical terms, musical terms, studio set up, etc.. that they may keep me on after June (which they want to I think.) Either way, it's amazing being here!
ALSO...I did about 12 minutes of music for a short film in the Newport Film Festival which will be screened later this month, info soon!
Hope everyone is well and happy.
Cheers kiddos.
